Happy Cinco de Mayo!
On this day 156 years ago -- May 5, 1862 -- the Mexican army defeated the French Empire in a difficult victory at the Battle of Puebla. Cinco de Mayo doesn’t mark Mexico’s independence, but it does signify a very important moment in the country’s history.
Here in the U.S., Cinco de Mayo has become a day to celebrate Mexican-American culture -- which of course wouldn’t be complete without a cerveza or two.
Enter Sugarfina(opens in new tab).
Sugarfina is a candy company based in Southern California which offers a grown-up candy store experience with high-end sweets and personalized packaging fit for any event or experience. Rosie O’Neill and her now-husband Josh Resnick dreamt up the idea in 2012 on their third date(!!!) at an outdoor showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” in Los Angeles. Fast forward six years, and they’ve created a candy conglomerate. (And yes, they’re still together.)
We sat down with one of their first employees, Danny Coorsh (now the Senior Director of Operations, thank you very much) who explained the company’s genesis and how they came up with the idea to collaborate on a beer-inspired gummy with Corona Light, just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
Watch the video above for all the details on the Sugarfina + Corona Light Candy Bento Box.
We’ll be sharing plenty more about Sugarfina -- especially Rosie and Josh’s love story -- soon on “The Grow Show.” Stay tuned!
