Luke Walton’s Advice for Anyone Who’s Been Sidelined in Their Career

When the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Luke Walton(opens in new tab) in 2003, he joined a roster full of all-star veterans like Shaquille O’Neal, Derek Fisher, Rick Fox and Kobe (freakin’) Bryant.

 

Needless to say, former head coach Phil Jackson benched the rookie a good portion of his early years on the team, which Walton admits was one of the biggest challenges he faced in his playing career.

 

In fact, I sat down with Walton—the Lakers’ current head coach(opens in new tab)—to discuss the negative cycle in which he found himself during that struggle. He revealed the lesson he learned to overcome it and how it translates across the board, for those in any career or position.
