Compassion in World Farming (opens in new tab) (CIWF) is a nonprofit (opens in new tab) that believes animals deserve to be treated with compassion and respect. Therefore, the organization’s mission is to end all cruel factory farming practices globally—a mission they’ve been incredibly successful in fueling and driving awareness around.

In fact, CIWF is one of the leading farm animal welfare charities across the world. The organization’s Food Business team is working with some of the world’s biggest food companies—including McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Panera—and when combined with CIWF’s other partnerships, corporate pledges and projects, is set to impact nearly 1.78 billion (opens in new tab) animals every year.

Of course, this bodes the question: How?

We sat down for an interview with CIWF’s head of finance for its United Kingdom team, Nick Dugdale, who reveals what he thinks the organization is getting right in order to successfully fundraise (opens in new tab). Dugdale also explains how CIWF maintains the balance between its mission and its business to continue aiding the nonprofit’s success, and why accountability is key.

Watch the video above to hear Dugdale’s advice for other nonprofit organizations and leaders.
