‍♀️As businesses face speed bumps due to the coronavirus, we're here to help with the nitty-gritty -- from finding financial relief to building a business continuity plan. Got a topic you'd like us to cover in an upcoming article? Drop us a line.

State income tax deadlines and their respective requirements vary this year due to the effects of the coronavirus. And if you’ve got a growing business, it’s likely those deadlines apply to not only your personal bank account but also your business’s.

If your business is a sole proprietorship (opens in new tab) or an LLC structured as a sole proprietorship (opens in new tab), then you likely know that it’s considered a “pass-through entity”: Your business’s income is “passed through” to your personal tax return, and you file both in one go. Thus, your state income tax deadline is your state business tax deadline, too.

We aim to make it easy to determine the filing deadline for state income tax that’ll affect both your personal funds and your business, if it’s a sole proprietorship or LLC structured as such. (Find information on deadlines for other business structures below.*) So, here’s a list. States with “no extension” still have a tax deadline of April 15.

This list was last updated on March 27, 2020.

*State tax deadlines for other business structures

If your business is structured as a partnership (opens in new tab), S corporation (opens in new tab) or an LLC structured as a partnership or S corporation (opens in new tab), you likely already filed your state business taxes by the typical March deadline that most states follow, which was March 16 this year. However, you'll pay them as a part of your individual income tax return -- so, those deadlines above apply to you, but only for the payment part of the process.

C corporations (opens in new tab) and LLCs structured as a C corporation (opens in new tab) are taxed separately from the individual, thus they file corporate income taxes with their states. Many states are extending corporate income taxes (where applicable) in conjunction with the state individual income tax. It is best to check your with respective state for all updates, deadlines and needed information.
