Saddleback Leather began 11 years ago when its founder, Dave Munson, was looking for the perfect leather bag to accompany him on his many adventures in Mexico. After his search came up with nothing, he found a local leather shop in Mexico where he had his perfect bag made especially for him. What Dave didn’t anticipate was that his bag attracted a lot of attention from other people who were also in search of their own perfect bag and, as a result, Saddleback Leather was born and began being sold through its ecommerce storefront at saddlebackleather.com (opens in new tab).
Great Business Ideas Need Great Technology
Like many growing businesses, Saddleback Leather needed technology infrastructure that could keep up with its growth. That is why, in late 2011, Saddleback Leather first deployed NetSuite’s single, unified cloud platform to replace its multiple, disparate systems, including Salesforce.com, QuickBooks, Excel and a homegrown ecommerce website. Since then, the company has achieved double-digit, year-over-year revenue growth while using NetSuite for ecommerce, financials, CRM, manufacturing, inventory, order management, warehousing, distribution and marketing.
Most recently, Saddleback revamped its ecommerce site with NetSuite SuiteCommerce to support and accentuate its unique brand while providing customers with an engaging shopping experience that could be accessed across multiple devices. With almost 50% of its traffic coming from mobile, the built-in responsive web design capabilities included in SuiteCommerce has enabled Saddleback Leather to engage users with a mobile-optimized experience for smartphone and tablet, while also providing an immersive and visually rich brand experience with a simple and streamlined checkout.
Since re-launching its ecommerce site, Saddleback Leather has seen an increase in overall sales while realizing significant improvements such as faster site load times, increased average time on site, decrease in cart abandonment and, most importantly, a reduction in the single-page bounce rate among mobile users, which was a big problem before the site re-launch.
Like its leather products, the future is rich with growth opportunities for Saddleback Leather as it continues to leverage NetSuite to grow its business of delivering only the highest quality leather designs and providing the best customer experience.
