The USS Enterprise, Star Trek
“Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” -Captain James Tiberius "Jim" Kirk
All the Star Trek fans out there, no doubt recognize the above quote as the infamous introduction of many Star Trek (opens in new tab) television episodes and films from 1966 onward. When thinking about the state of the current retail industry, this famous quote immediately came to my mind, “to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
Why? Because, like the Starship Enterprise who’s five-year mission led the crew to many strange new worlds, successful retailers today are also boldly going where no others have gone before. They are on a mission. A mission to transform and innovate in order to keep up with the expectations of today’s omnichannel shoppers.
If they don’t, they risk falling behind or becoming obsolete.
In the annual RIS Retail Technology Study (opens in new tab), Gartner’s Jeff Roster, the principal analyst for the report, confirmed this when he said, “the future will be won by retailers who are bold enough to risk leveraging the potential that technology can unleash.”
If you are a retailer on a mission to transform your business and not afraid to boldly go where other retailers have gone before, then I invite you to join me for an informative webinar (opens in new tab) on Wednesday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m. EST, along with Jeff Roster and Joe Skorupa, Editorial Director for RIS News, as we discuss the major risks and challenges facing retailers today and how those who are willing to push beyond their limitations to innovate and differentiate will find epic success.
