Lorena Ochoa Reyes is one of the best golfers of all time. Period.

She also happens to be a woman from Mexico--two traits that make her a minority in golf.

When she broke into the sport as a professional in 2002, she was often the only female on the course and one of the few Mexican golfers in the game. Needless to say, her background alone set her up for a challenge from the very beginning. But she never let that stop her.

Ochoa went on to win two professional majors and 25 LPGA tours. She was the top-ranked female golfer in the world for 158 consecutive and total weeks, as well as the first Mexican golfer of either gender to be ranked No.1 in the world.

In honor of International Women’s Day(opens in new tab), we sat down with Ochoa to find out how she changed the course for women in golf, despite many challenges, and what all women can learn from her experience.
