NetSuite is a great place to work. Just ask employees of NetSuite Australia, which was recently recognised as being among the top 25 organisations to work in Australia by BRW (Business Review Weekly) in the publication’s 7th annual Best Places to Work Study for 2014.
The study surveyed a broad range of industries, in two categories - companies with under 100 employees and those with 100 or more employees. NetSuite Australia Pty Limited ranked 24th in the small-company group, with employees citing workplace camaraderie, transparency and employee pride as key characteristics in the organisation.
Of course, this is not the first time that the company has won awards for good employment practices. NetSuite Inc. has won multiple awards for its workplace environment, innovative culture and leadership over the years.
Being known as a good employer is critical to attracting and retaining the most talented employees. Salary is important, but employees want more than money out of their daily commitments. According to the Great Place to Work Institute, which conducted this study, trust is the most important factor in employee satisfaction and trustworthy companies get first choice of job candidates. That is a major competitive edge for any company, and particularly technology firms which made up a majority of the top 25 list.
“These companies are well positioned to attract and retain the most skilled, loyal and innovative employees in the coming years,” said Zrinka Lovrencic, managing director of the Great Place to Work Institute.
According to the Great Places study, employees are attracted to employers that foster trust, loyalty and enjoyment of the workplace and colleagues. The Institute created a Trust Index to gauge how much employees trust their employers. While there is no one specific policy or benefit that will make employees loyal to their jobs, the study found a number of common factors among the winning companies, many of which helped workers maintain a healthy work/life balance. For instance, many firms provided generous parental leave, paid time off for community service, flexible schedules, employee profit-sharing or a chance to earn equity, and a collaborative work environment that encouraged employee input. Perks like free lunches, clothing allowances, and access to the latest technologies were also appreciated.
The upshot is that companies like NetSuite value their employees and show it in their policies and work practices. That makes an employee feel: "I'm part of this business, I do make a difference, there are opportunities for me, my opinion is valued."
